Pretty good guide

I got this guide to use in conjunction with a DK Eyewitness guide for Japan. Overall, I prefer the DK Eyewitness guides because they have great photos and easy directions/explanations. It was handy to have this guide, though, because there was some extra information that wasn't in the DK guide. I found it a little less appealing and not as easy to use at the DK guide.

The Michelin Green Guides are great for sightseeing, touring, etc., but have less coverage of hotels, restaurants, etc.--the realm of the red guides! I like them very much for suggestions and discussions of temples, etc.

Beware of this one

I recall that when I ordered this guide a critical review commented emphatically about the difficulty using it. However no other Japan guide was as recent, so I ordered it despite misgivings. Unfortunately it turned out to be of limited use, for it is difficult to find what you seek, and gives no clear or easily comprehensible advice. Unfortunately there are no guides of the standard written earlier by Bisignani which I used when travelling through Japan over some 20 years. The information is probably in Michelin, but it's hard to find. Only buy this book if you are desperate - better to have a less current guide than this.

An excellent reference for what you get, but limited in scope

The Junkers Ju 88 is one of the iconic aircraft of World War II, seeing action on every front from the sense of North Africa to the northernmost part of Europe, and from the Atlantic frontier in the West to the Ural Mountains in the east.

Maciej Noszczak's slim volume of drawings in 1/72 scale focuses on the Ju 88A-1 through A-17 variants. The book consists of a one page summary divided down the middle with English on the left side, Polish on the right, followed by 15 pages of drawings, and four pages of color profile renderings of A-4 trop and A-5 aircraft operating in the Mediterranean theater of action during 1943. The drawings and color renderings are very well done and include surface rivet detail and other indicators that the draftsman has really done his homework.

Along with the drawings inside the printed booklet are separate printed sheets that reproduce the books drawings in 1/72 (A-1; A-4; A-5; A-6; A-14; A-17), 1/48 (A-4), and 1/32 scale (A-1; A-4).

Finally, there is a superlative set of Cartograf decals in all three scales that allow modelers to make accurately rendered scale models of the aircraft depicted in the color profiles.

My take on the work viewed as a whole would be that it is very good for what there is. The quality of the drawings get top marks (A +). The Cartograf decals also get an A+. The rest of the book, not so much.

The title of the book, Junkers Ju 88 bomber variants, would seem to indicate that readers could expect to see discussions of Ju 88 bomber variants covering the full spectrum of dedicated bomber aircraft, but which were unaccountably omitted from inclusion in this volume. These would include the Ju 88S-1 (BMW 801D radial engines, ventral gondola replaced by smaller aerodynamic body into which the aircraft bomb site was mounted, streamlined nosecone, rearward firing defensive armament upgraded to MG 131 (12.7 mm) machine gun, dive brakes removed, radio altimeter, IIF, and electronic countermeasures installed); Ju 88 S-2 (similar to S-1 but with large wooden streamlined bomb container installed below lower fuselage); Ju 88S-3 (similar to S-1, but with Junkers Jumo 213 in-line, liquid cooled engines, and wooden, paddle-bladed VS 111 propellers). These aircraft played a significant role in Operation Steinbock,the Luftwaffe's ultimately unsuccessful bombing campaign against British cities and towns, the so-called 'baby blitz' that lasted from January through May 1944.

There were also limited production versions of the Ju 88 fitted with extended fuselages fore and aft of the wings, the H-1 and H-2 variants, that were equipped with maritime search radars allowing the aircraft to seek out and attack Allied shipping far out over the Atlantic Ocean, well beyond the range of most other land-based patrol aircraft.

For modelers looking to build something different from the usual, run-of-the-mill Ju 88A-4 model kits, this book may be somewhat disappointing.

These omissions do not necessarily detract from the overall value of this book. What you get is still very good, but you'll have to look elsewhere for the information that the publisher chose not to include.

This book together with the two books from the Classic Publication series, Junkers Ju 88 Volume One - From Schnellbomber to Multi-Mission Warplane & Volume Two - The Bomber at War, provide a most comprehensive description of the aircraft. There are plans in 1/72, 1/48, and 1/32 scales of both the Ju 88A-1 and A-4 variants. There is a also a decal sheet in each of the scales for representative aircraft found in the book's profiles. This book gives one the best value on the Ju 88 yet to be published.

The first, and still the best

I first purchased a copy of this book when was originally released in 1990/1991. Something about the cover caught my attention. After the first page, I fully agreed with the intro: "In your hands lies a revolution..."
Fourteen years later, I am still learning from this little paperback and have puchased and given as gifts several dozen copies.
I have read through some of the other books ("Setting A Trap for God," etc.), but in my mind, "Prayers of the Cosmos" is still the best. It is simple, direct, and free of the trappings of ego that seem to permeate so many of the other books.
My only "complaint" is that the prayers aren't available in CD, only audio cassette.

Makes my Heart Sing

Not being an Aramaic scholar, I cannot really comment on the alternative shades of meaning and translations contained in this book, but I can, without reservation, say reading through these words and using the body prayers makes my heart sing. After many months I go back again and again to this book when I want more expansive material for meditations. Expansive, yeah, that's exactly what it is!

Wonderful little book

One reviewer found the difference between the King James version translation and this one disturbing - well yes. That may be the point. This very small book explains how this translation was done - looking at not just literal translation but other layers of meaning. Our Sunday study group (some Christian, many not) found it deeply inspiring and enriching. It brings into sharp focus the patriarchal, hierarchical mindset of King James' translators. They were a product of their times and of whatever political pressure may have been brought to bear upon them. This book does much to expand our understanding and to expand the accessibility and usefulness of the newly translated material

In recent years I have become obsessed with the scent of the essential Oil, Frankincense and after reading this sweet little book, I now know why! The book talks strictly about Frankincense, its history, the making of it, and its use as an outstanding essential oil... It is truly an amazing essential oil and really does smell Divine... I often wondered why it was given to Jesus by the three Wise Men at the time of his birth... I now know why. This book was valuable in explaining its use and its importance to humanity... It is truly the GoTo essential oil of the times... and from what I have read in the book, of all time... Get the book if you Love Frankincense, it is worth it!

has some good points, but incomplete thoughts

I must first of all say that I am by no means a Biblical scholar. I am not a regular church goer, although I have been considering my faith lately. This book was suggest to me by a good friend. Pastor MacArthur makes some good observations regarding the current state of the American Family. Certainly, many issues would be resolved if the family unit in America was strengthened, and I think few people would dispute that. Despite that fact, I found Pastor MacArthur's arguments to be incomplete, and that he would come to conclusions with fully explaining how he got there. I felt some of his arguments were hard to follow. I was also disappointed when at time he seems to be talking about the individual and how they can live their life according to His Word, but then seemed to get side tracked with a commentary about society in general. I expected this to be more help to better myself, but found that it was more of a commentary rather than a plan of action.

Great biblical insight but wondered where the Scripture was to support that women cannot read Scripture in public. Felt that he was limiting God in a few areas with his personal view but is definitely a man of the Word and a great biblical scholar.

Did I just criticize John MacArthur?

Meh
The chapter on singleness made it sound like having a spouse gets in the way of serving the Lord -- rather than focusing on the unique ministry of singles (especially in a world that regards chastity as inhumane), the author focused on the negatives of marriage. But I watch my momma make every word, thought, gesture, and feeling captive to the obedience of Christ, while I struggle to work for God and not for man as a single person (before I was ever in a relationship).
Also, instead of the negatives of feminism, how are the beauties of God's design so blinding so as to show how ugly feminism has been from the beginning? Pointing upwards would make better evangelism.
The first half was helpful. The section on the Proverbs 31 woman was exhausting. How do I become this woman? Mere sleep deprivation won't make me like her. His exegesis on deaconesses was interesting.
CS Lewis' That Hideous Strength, Keller's The Meaning of Marriage, and Gary Thomas' Sacred Marriage make a far more convincing case for the beauty of God's design for men and women.

Too short for the money...Don't bother.

While it was nice visiting these characters once again, I felt very cheated by the extreme shortness of this story. Yes, the event the story covers was intense, but once finished left me wanting more. I thought perhaps there had been a mistake and the story continued, as according to the content meter on my Kindle, there was alot more left to the download.

I did NOT appreciate the "commercials" that took up more than half of the download...yes, while it's nice there is all kinds of support groups for Gays & Lesbians, that portion of the dowload was actually bigger than the story itself. It felt like I had paid good money for information I didn't not need nor want. Had I known in advance, I would have not bought this book.

Even though I quite enjoyed the first book from this series (if it can even be called a series), I will certainly be very leary of purchasing anything further by this author because of this book. I work hard for my money and want good value for it, when I spend it. This book did not give me that value. This story/book should have been offered as a "freebie" or at least priced under a buck. It appears my bitterness over feeling cheated overshadows any enjoyment I might have gotten from reading this item.

I was glad to revisit the characters from Mexican Heat (since I loved that book) and was happy to see where they stood years later. My only disappointment was it was way too short and ended abruptly. Still hoping to see a real sequeal one day.

Excellent: a challenging but rewarding entry into Chines

Professor Tu's commentaries upon Confucian thought quite literally open a "whole new world" to those whose thought patterns descend from Athens. The Chinese have drawn their world view from Confucian thought, and from Buddhism and Taoism. The Chinese perspective contrasts sharply with Western rationalism. Intuition is highly valued, feeling and reasoning are considered to act together, the situation at hand and, above all, personal relationships, take priority over abstract principle. Professor Tu's work is not without its "practical" significance. The US and the Western world overall need to understand the Chinese world. This is a good place to begin the attempt. It will be highly rewarding.
