After receiving a degree in horticulture from UW Madison, Kim Flottum worked four years in the USDA Honey Bee Research Lab, studying pollination ecology. Excellent for a backyard beekeeper instead of a commercial beekeeper

This book has a LOT of information that is very useful to me as a beekeeper with one hive. Most of the books you get are written for someone who will eventually have many hives. This one assumes you won't expand beyond your backyard. It has a lot of updated information about the varroa mite problem as well as the traditional problems. This new edition includes safe pest control techniques, top bar basics, urban beekeeping tips and tricks and 25 rules of modern beekeeping. I checked out the previous edition at the library and found it very helpful --this one is even more so. There are many pictures of various things going on in the hive, as well as harvesting the honey and wax. There are recipes for various creams, butters, and balms made from the wax, as well as tips on harvesting and marketing the honey. The only thing I didn't like was that it had no recipe for sugar water, pollen substitute or anything like that. They merely say you can purchase them. Fortunately, you can find these recipes on the internet.

One of the best books on beekeeping.

An excellent introduction to Beekeeping. I've bought and read 5-10 books on beekeeping, this is the best so far! Covers everything in a well laid out, narrative style. Well organized and illustrated, leaves little out. If you are interested in bees or beekeeping and want a "bible", here it is. Start with this book. Good coverage of the three most popular types of hives, their variants and reasons for each style. Diseases and pests also well covered.

Best beginner honey bee book period

Well written, fun to read, numerous color illustrations.

Even old time beekeepers will learn something in this wide ranging, yet thorough book. Why? Because the author, as editor on one the two most popular beekeeping journals, has used his access to latest information on everything from new ways of keeping bees, to the most update information on bee pests, like varroa and small hive beetle to produce by far and away the best beginner honey bee book ever published.

I loved the '25 Rules of Modern Beekeeping' near the end of the book that neatly and memorably summarized the preceding beautifully illustrated 200 pages.

Great book, it’s not only about reporting in APEX

After reading the book I can say it's very interesting I really liked the content, I learned many things about reports in APEX that I didn’t know. Also the book covers many different areas of APEX, it’s not only about reporting as it also speaks briefly about APEX integration with OBIEE, SAP Crystal Reports, Google API, Oracle R Enterprise and the migration from MS Access and Oracle Form to APEX, as well covers the history and architecture of APEX.

This book presents a lot of hands-on examples for interactive and classic reports but forces the reader to perform the examples with the provided test schema, the idea is not bad but it would be easier if the scheme were taken from the samples already provided by Oracle.

Finally I want to say that the author shows his great knowledge not only in the area of development in APEX as well in other tools, I recommend reading this book to expand the concepts and not just stick with reports in APEX.

This book has helped me improving my applications from the first pages! Not only APEX Reporting but lot (maybe too) of Techniques and Tricks about pl/sql, analytics functions, ajax, webservices and so on.

Technical nuggets overshadowed by Unmet Expectations

This book contained a ton of great hands-on examples of different reporting techniques and methods for both interactive reports and classic reports. It also integrated some advanced Oracle SQL mechanisms into an ApEx environment.

Despite the technical nuggets throughout the book (and there are several), I had unmet expectations as I read through it. The book reads more like a series of hands-on post-it notes on several different reporting technologies. I was expecting to find the book full of explanations and descriptions of the various reporting concepts and capabilities within ApEx. I was hoping to see a dedicated section on report templates rather than just mentioning how a report template would be set up within a different context. I was also hoping to learn about the Reports section of Shared Components (Report Queries and Report Layouts as of ApEx 4.2), but there was no mention of that aspect of ApEx at all. Of the eight chapters in the book, only three of them actually focused on native reporting capabilities of ApEx. Rather, most of the book introduces several different technologies to integrate with ApEx.

The book also forces the reader to perform the examples with the provided test schema while reading the book. I did not do this and found parts of the book hard to follow. The requirement to perform the examples rather than just read the book, unmet expectations as described above, and an unusually high number of grammatical errors made the book hard to read and enjoy.

A Series that is a MUST read!

Oh my gosh, I don't think I can wait until "Spring 2015" to find out what happens next!!

This is the third book in the Camdyn series that I have had the pleasure to read and I find my self so fortunate to have "discovered" the talented Christina Coryell. She has a way with words and writes such delightful and thought provoking stories. Camdyn is quite funny and I find myself laughing out loud at some of the things she goes through. This story was also quite touching to me. I lost both of my grandparents to Alzheimer's and to read Camdyn and Hannah's visit with Isabel sent me back to sitting with my grandparents and going through exactly what they went through. Also, to read Etta's story hit home as well. I am a first generation American and my family was all born in Germany. I remember hearing stories of things they experienced when they came to the US.

Cole and Camdyn's relationship is sweet and loving and delightful. The forgiveness theme was strong in this story and I'm glad to have witnessed Camdyn and Rita's journey. I can't say enough good things about these books except to go and pick them up! You won't be sorry!!

Totally loved the book!

If there was a way to give more than 5 stars I would!! As it is all I can do is add to the list of excellent reviews of this book. Although I have more than enjoyed all three of the books currently in this series, this one if my favorite. As in the other books, Camdyn is totally adorable in a wild, zany way getting herself into the weirdest situation. There were so many times I was laughing out loud. In fact I was laughing before I even started the first chapter! Cole sure didn't know what he was getting himself into but he does not seem to mind! As a married couple they certainly do not mind public displays of affection making the guys around them a bit ill and the ladies envious. Again there was not a hint of anything that would offend. It's a very clean love story in a kind or hot sort of way.

For me the best part of this book is that it deals with some serious topics and does so with depth and sensitivity. In doing the research for her next book Camdyn makes discoveries that will change her life and add a whole new family she knew nothing of. Was this really her family? Who was her mother really? Could she ever forgive? Did she even want to? Meeting the grandmother that would never really know who she was, never know she even existed, was beautiful and touching.

She is also dealing with the release of her new book and all the attention she will get as her real name if make public. Camdyn's craziness on live TV had to be good and of course it was.

So, now we wait for the 4th book and I WILL be reading that one because I REALLY want to know what will happen next!! The big question is can Christina Coryell come up with another book to top this one? My bet is she will and it will be even better. Can't wait. Glad you have shared your God given gift with the world, Christina. Keep writing, please. I have no doubt there are many more great stories to come.

I do not write many reviews as I read too many books, that this would be all that I do. I am so pleased with this series of books. Camdyn starts out as a hurt child running from anything that would cause her to face herself. You see her grow and learn to accept herself and discover she is someone to be proud of and really trying to learn to accept God's blueprint for her life. Camdyn makes you laugh, cry and sometimes throw your hands up in the air. I definitely am anticipating the next book. I guess the big message for me was that families are messy, but no matter how messed we are, there is still the choice of facing the issues and learning to love through it all! Congratulations to this author and her ability to capture your heart from the very first page!

Very Interesting!

I bought this textbook for my Philosophy 101 class this summer. And I was glad I purchased it (my college's bookstore tends to overcharge). The book comes with readings that I found to be intriguing and made me think. Not only did I enjoy this book, but I have come to love it because of my professor. Philosophy is already a hard subject as it is; the book made learning about philosophy easier. It breaks things down and makes it so that an average person can understand.

Interesting, not dry

As its name implies, it is an introductory textbook and therefore doesn't go amazingly in-depth on any one single philosophical view. However, the book is broken up into several different areas of philosophy, and in these areas it tries to include different viewpoints and perspectives on the issues for the chapter.

The textbook is not dry at all, and the context it tries to provide for the included texts are very helpful to understanding the meaning and purpose behind the philosopher's ideas. If you have to purchase this textbook for a philosophy class, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

A challenging vision for radically better Universities...

Lean University is a short and easy to read text that sets out Bob's vision of Lean in higher education, and is perfect for getting a flavour for how Lean works in Universities for staff right through to the most senior levels. Bob's vision of Universities is one of places where each person works, continuously and fundamentally, to deliver the best for their students.

This text is, however, not just describing a utopian dream. Bob succinctly, accurately and compellingly describes some of the barriers that prevent Universities from becoming Lean and gives practical guidance for how to counter these. His central themes are easy to understand but harder to apply, and will be difficult for some senior managers to hear; that University managers need to re-learn their craft, that teaching students has to be at the core of what we do, and that Lean ceases to be Lean when it is used at the expense of people. Bob's message is a passionate call for integrity in how we teach our students; that we must deliver what is valuable to students, in the best way possible, without accepting received wisdom.

A rallying-call for academic teachers, this text may read at times uncomfortably for those committed to research, and will challenge administrators to question the value of their activities. This reflects the genuine tensions that exist within higher education, and Bob presents us with an important challenge; that all staff in Universities must get better at working together to really improve what we deliver, to make an even bigger difference to individuals, and beyond.

About the Author
James S. Trieschmann, CPCU, CLU has a DBA degree from Indiana University. He was the Dudley L. Moore, Jr. Chairholder in Insurance and is a past president of the American Risk and Insurance Association. Dr. Trieschmann retired in July 2003 after teaching for 30 years at the University of Georgia.

Robert E. Hoyt (Ph.D. and M.A., Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and B.S., University of Nebraska-Lincoln) is Professor of Risk Management and Insurance and has been a faculty member at UGA since 1988. He also studied as an ITT International Fellow for one year at the Universit�t zu K�ln in Cologne, Germany. In 1995 he was the Fulbright Visiting Professor of Risk Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration (Wirtschaftsuniversit�t Wien). Prof. Hoyt teaches corporate risk management, risk theory, and insurer operations and serves as the Department Head for Insurance, Legal Studies, and Real Estate. In 1993 he received the Richard B. Russell Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award and in 1994 he was honored as the Terry College Distinguished Teacher. He was appointed to the UGA Teaching Academy in 2001.

David W. Sommer (Ph.D. and M.A., Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and B.B.A., St. Mary's University of San Antonio, Texas) is an Associate Professor of Risk Management and Insurance. He joined the UGA faculty in 1995. Dr. Sommer teaches in the areas of corporate risk management and employee benefits. His research interests include insurance company implications of ownership structure, and insurance regulation. Dr. Sommer's articles have appeared in various scholarly journals, including the Journal of Risk and Insurance, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Journal of Insurance Issues, the Journal of Insurance Regulation, and the CPCU Journal. Dr. Sommer is the graduate coordinator for the RMIN area.

a good introduction or review

I used an earlier edition of this book as an undergraduate years ago and remembered liking it, so I bought a later edition for personal review. It has good coverage of principles of risk management as well as a review of the different types of insurance (for example, different types of life insurance (whole, term, etc.), with review of the benefits of each). Overall, for anyone who wants a review of risk management, an edition of this book is useful.

30 days to feeling very close to healed

This book has a lot of great tips for not just healing but adjusting your behavior and viewing life in a healthier way. I found my self snapshotting passages and sharing them with friends throughout the book. Do I magically feel healed? No. I still have a slight pain in my chest. Do I feel like this book gave me several insights I can put to practice and enjoy my life and find an appropriate love and healthy relationship? Yes. I really do.

Well worth it

I was in need of something that would help me get over the really difficult break up that had happened so suddenly. I didn't understand why we broke up and all I could think about were ways I could get back with my ex.
When I found this book I figured nothing could make what I was going through any worse than it was so why not read this and see what it has to offer? And I am so glad I did. This book changed my entire outlook on the situation, and without it I would probably still be stuck in a downward spiral. It showed me to focus on myself instead of others first all the time, and you must be okay alone before you can share your life with someone else.
I didn't expect to be completely over my break up in a month and I'm not, but I look at it differently than I did before. Well worth reading!!!

I really liked this book

I really liked this book. I went through a break up after being with someone for about 7 years, owning a house together and being engaged. This one helped me 'snap out of' the tears and sadness. I recommend this book to a friend going through a similar situation and she enjoyed it as well. Helps you realize your value and worth and how to stop the tears and move on.
