A valuable reference. Should satisfy most.

The perfect Military Atlas of WWII probably does not exist since one could always wish for more or for less detail and features. This one is an acceptable compromise even if I would have wished for more complete coverage: for example it does not cover the 1942 campaign in the Crimea, around Sevastopol and on the Kerch peninsula (of questionable strategic importance, but of tactical excellence for its commander FM von Manstein; should be given the same importance as Rommel's Tobruk).

Still this Atlas has a wealth of information including
* a summarized timeline on the top corner of each left page
* www links at the top of each right page
* detailed maps of tactical movements with topographical features and longitude/latitude in most cases
* maps other than tactical: economies, losses, expulsions, resistance, camps
* an accompanying text of quite high quality.

But there are unfortunately minuses:
* the format is too small for the level of detail and the wealth of information
* there is no legend explaining the topographical color coding (see for example as illustration Pimlott's Atlas The Atlas of WWII )
* there is no km or mile scale (again see Pimlott's for an example) which for a less experienced user may confuse the concepts of tactical movement in say the Crimea versus say the Caucasus

And finally there are some blatant errors:
* page 83: "2 north Caucasus jan-apr 1942" should read 1943 instead of 1942
* page 96: "Kassserine ...German counterattack on 14 May" should read February, not May.
And those are only the ones I caught so far so there may be more.

Compact abridgment of Times Atlas

This colorful atlas is a mild abridgement of the The Times Atlas of the Second World War. That large coffee-table atlas is my favorite for WW2. However, the Collins Atlas includes about nine-tenths of its larger brother in a more portable package. In the Collins edition, the pages are smaller, some of the two-page overview spreads are gone, most of the maps are redrawn in a cleaner graphic style (though with less relief detail), some smaller maps are absent, photographs are now only in section dividers, the large timeline at the front of the Times Atlas is now split up into mini-timelines for each spread, and websites are listed. I still prefer the Times Atlas overall, but the Collins Atlas is a terrific value and can be carried around for reference when I'm reading other books on WW2. I am glad I have both.

Just what I have been waiting for!

I love this book. The author takes you from very easy to the complex and impressive. For months I searched the web for angel themed origami only to find the most complex. Today after only a few hours of practice I can make some very cute angels for kids. People at work have enjoyed them so much I get stopped by other co-workers who want one made for their desk. If only I had this book when I was single and dating... LOL.

Great pictures. Challenging for the experienced but easy and instructional even for the novice. Get this book!

A book on Angel Origami for all your angels.

I own many of Nick’s origami books and when I heard that he is coming out with a new book dealing with angels, I thought “it’s about time”. I love origami books that deals specifically with one and only one theme as this allows me to explore many approaches and variations of the same theme.

Who does not wish to have their own guardian angel looking out for us?

As always Nick’s books does not contain complex models. The 15 models within are simple and still can be enjoyed by an experienced folder but could easily be managed by a first timer, following and folding in sequence, gaining experience and slowly being able to manage to fold models with increasing difficulty.

I personally found the angels amusing. You can fold your own angels to guard and look after your own daily needs – good luck, communication, music, love, money and friendship. lol, there’s even one for your bad hair days!

I have a number of favourites in this book, “Table Place Card Angel” which allows you to decorate your table, plates, before a feast; “Angel of Communication” , simple to fold but effective; “Love Heart Angel”, a winged heart which you can also use on Valentine day; “Angel on the Wall”, a lovely praying angel and “Guardian Angel” looking lovingly at you. Try various sizes, some are better when small, some are real spectacular when folded big and use as a decoration. You can even put one on top of your own Christmas tree.

As I write this, Christmas is coming and the theme of angels is timely and this book would make an ideal Christmas gift for your loved ones to fold their own guardian angels to love and to protect them. You can also fold these angels with love, good will and wishes before sending them with your gifts or cards.

I strongly recommend this book.

Out of the nine books in this TimeLife series I've read so far this one is far and away my favorite. It is almost shocking to learn just how sophisticated the early Chinese were. Starting with the Song dynasty around 960 CE (Common Era) and ending with the death of the Mongol invander and emperor Khubilai Khan around the 14th century CE, this book gives readers a real treat filled with both intellictual and historical adventure. This book had no problem keeping my interest... I actually hated to see this one end!!!

another Time Life classic

This is a very intelligent and very beautiful book, and though scholarly it reads somewhat like a novel. The lives of several individuals are described in detail, and conflicts of partisan politics. The illustrations, many from classical sources, are great works of art and help to recreate the daily lives of the people of higher and lower classes, mostly during the Song dynasty. The last chapter covers the Khubilai Khan and the Mongol invasion and Marco Polo, and what life was like for the Mongols and the Chinese. The chapter ends with reproductions of paintings which the Chinese used to preserve their culture and to protest their harsh Mongol overlords.
Hardcover, no dust jacket, and quality printing on very good paper.

More than a coffee table book

This book provides a good look at China during the 10th thru the 14th centuries. The book gives a good view of this period with enough detail to get a feel of what life was like for the emperors household as well as the commoners . There are wonderful pictures though out the slim volume . Not an academic text but a very readable and educational overview.

With lots of lesbian drama, this sexy tale weaves together the lives of three out lesbians and their new friend, who never questioned her sexuality, until now. Choices - An Entertaining Read Denise and Cooley are best friends, two studs with very different personalities. Cooley is a ladies-woman, sexing anyone who opens her legs without regard to their sexual orientation or their attachment to her. Denise is the star of the women's basketball team and she hasn't had a date in a year, still reeling from the woman who broke her heart. They're joined by their friend Carmen, who although has lost a lot of weight, still suffers from low self-esteem and Denise's new roommate Lena, the sexy girlfriend of the star of the men's basketball team. For the first time in a while, Denise's interest if piqued. But it turns out her new roommate and love interest is straight. Or is she? A Look into the World of Young Black Lesbians Author Skyy admits she hopes her writing will shed a positive light on the Black lesbian community. So far, she has done just that. Skyy is one of the first writers I have read to so richly describe the stud/femme relationship in the Black lesbian community. But her story is universal. Full of the self-discovery of youth, the loves and lusts of the college years and the prejudices gay college students face on a daily basis. Lesbian Sex, Lesbian Drama, Lesbian Life - It's all Here First time author Skyy has a great gift for dialogue. Her story moves at a nice clip. There's plenty of drama. The girls bring that on themselves. And there's plenty of sex. If only my college years were so action packed! If there's one criticism I have of Choices, it's that the characters are a bit stereotypical. Skyy creates a nice outline of each girl, but I'd like to see her go a bit deeper. Her writing has a lot more potential than the lesbian romance genre it finds itself in. A sequel in the works? I hope we hear more from this rising writing star. HOT HOT HOT: Give me MORE

I took the time to read the reviews of this book before purchasing. At first I thought, "Wow could a lesbian novel really be that good." I hate to say it but I hadn't read many that were. However I was shut up quickly after reading the first page. I like many others on here could not put the book down. It was like someone glued it to my hands. However shame on you for leaving us hanging like that in the end, where is the sequel????

I literally have a friend just like each one of the characters, I have about 5 friends like Cooley (shame i know).

Listen to me people, you want to get this book. No other lesbian novel has made me want to write a review on Amazon. No other lesbian novel has made me want to buy the sequel. No other lesbian novel has left me thinking about it for days after I read it.

I agree with one of the other reviews, Skyy should be up there with E. Lynn. She is the lesbain E. Lynn.

A refreshingly REAL read!

I've been hunting down this book in Canada for ages. It was sooo worth the wait. The book is amazing. What surprised me most of all was how real it felt. I felt like I saw Cooley before...as if she was one of the girls in my own school. I fel that way about all of them.

Skyy created characters who all ring true. There aren't many books about young, black lesbians in the setting of a university. This may actually be the first one. So hats off to Ms. Skyy for possibly making history and setting a standard for writers to come. READ THIS BOOK. You will not put it down until you're through!
