A must read. One of the best for true RE investors

I have been investing in RE for over 20 years and I have read a lot of books. This one is the best so far and I would say it is a must read.

This book is not a Carlton Sheets (et al) get rich quick balogna book. This is a book for serious RE investors.

If you want to flip properties, this book is not for you. If you want to buy and hold properties, this is by far the best book I have ever read.

The most value of this book is how to properly assess value of a property. Assessing the value of a property is probably the most difficult thing. Not only does he teach you how to do this, he teaches you how to see through the sellers inflated balance sheets and possible misleading Realtor statements.

Also of tremendous value is how to properly manage properties for maximum cashflow. I had no idea I had so much to learn in this area.

What more can I say? Just get the book. I got the audio book and I listened to it at least 4 times.

Finally a "How To" Book on Investing!

My expectations were low at first. I've heard so many people bashing GURUs on the subject of investing in RE and thought I'd hear the same advice. I couldn't have been more WRONG!

Ken McElroy, takes the time to explain all the tools you will need in order to be successful in RE investing. The thing I found most helpful is the end of the chapter To Do List. Have you ever read a chapter and moved on to the next chapter without an action plan...Not in this book!

McElroy talks about the things that made him a success as well as a recommended path for you to be successful. He doesn't cover flipping properties. When he does mention Flipping Properties, he advises against it.

I would recommend this book to the beginner and intermediate investor. For 2 reasons, this book will move you into the doing stage of your investing career with its action plan. Secondly, there is no fluff here. He gives you fact after fact.

Breaking the myths

Here's my book review on this real estate book.

PROS:

This book addresses two main myths that people have about real estate.

1. One is, since you don't have that much money, you shouldn't invest in real estate. Though this book doesn't cover how to finance your investments, it does name a few examples of how a few people who didn't have money managed to invest in real estate to make their millions.

2. The second myth is how big deals are too risky so don't go after them. The book gives an example of other people doing it.

The fact of the matter is, if you don't have much money, you'll either need to get some capital by borrowing or partnering. And when you face big deals, the risks are heavier but also the rewards are multiplied.

CONS:

1. In the end, this book covers real estate pros (but hardly any cons). So it is motivating but unbalanced. Care and risk management should always be part of your investment strategies.

Terrific Book on Chakra Healing

This is a book that is well written with the reader foremost in mind. Many books in this genre often make the author the main subject--not so here. The tone throughout this book is one of invitation and restraint. Ms. Hausauer invites you into the world of Chakra healing but she doesn’t overwhelm you with jargon and esoteric detail. She has laid it out in an easy-to-follow format that enables you to first be introduced to the Chakra system as a whole and then to focus on each individual chakra. It is eminently useful as a manual. And it is chock full of good information. Ms Hausauer knows this system well and communicates it clearly. In a way this is a basic primer for beginners. The information is clear and practical. Yet it will be very useful to anyone already familiar with the Chakra system for the same reasons. Ms Hausauer gives the reader many ways to access the energies of the various chakras and to do simple everyday things to balance one’s chakras. She shows how a person can use knowledge of the health of their chakras in their life to enhance their joy in living—on all levels, physical, emotional and intellectual, and spiritual. One caveat: the lists of things one can do to work with each chakra is often daunting, but once you remember it is a list to choose from and not a list of items one should accomplish, it becomes extremely useful. Her approach to Chakra healing does not require you to completely revise your belief systems; it just asks for a recognition that the universe we all live in is composed of energies, including the energy centers in our own bodies. How fortunate we are to have such a clear explanation of the Chakra system and an invitation to participate in self healing presented in this book.

I have used this book extensively in my life for ideas, suggestions, and inspiration when I have needed it. I've worked with energy for many years, and this book is the most wonderful resource for me. However, I think it would be great for beginners as well, since it explains energy and energy healing in an easy to understand way.

The variety of ideas, suggestions and simple affirmations always give me a new way to try to work with whatever is on my mind at the moment. I always find something new to try in this wonderful resource.

You need to buy this book as you will refer to it over and over and discover new things that are relevant each time you open it. The chapters are set up to either read through from start to end or focus in on the areas where you need information and assistance. A true gem.

FOR THE GOOD OF OUR PLANET!

There is a vast amount of information in this book which mirrors and supports a lot of the research I have done myself on the critical importance of knowing where our food is grown. We have, as a nation, allowed our bodies to become unhealthy, overweight, and dietally-induced petri dishes of dis-eases. Mr Rubin is leading the way to a better, more sustainable world. While I may not agree with everything he says, I like the fact he is "betting the farm" on his principles. How many of us can say that?

Eye opening doesn't begin to express this book. I didn't realize the effects that we were having on the environment. Our live easy life of honey can you go down to the grocery and pick up some beef, chicken, or bread any kind will do, is over! We need to be diligent because our lives depend on it. We need to realize that what we put into our bodies is ultimately going to control us. I remember reading in one of the chapters that Organic products/ produce are more expensive and I do agree. But on the other hand think about how many times as a family you go out to eat. 1, 2, 3 times a week??? Add that up and it will probably break down to being cheaper or about the same price. I know after reading this book we will be more at home where I know exactly what is going into my family.
The chapter on the GM's and GMO's was incredible. I had no idea that we as Americans were eating things (GM) that are not regulated. This is an experiment on us without our knowledge as a Dr had mentioned in one of the chapters. I feel like I failed my children that are now grown by not knowing enough about what we were consuming.
We now live on 10.3 acres in the country and no longer in the city. I am planning on having a discussion with my husband about potentially trying to grow our own vegetables. Maybe even some chickens, who knows. The sky is the limit because we need to not only take care of ourselves but our future generations.

For Anyone Interested in Health or a Healthy Earth

"Planet Heal Thyself, The Revolution of Regeneration in Body, Mind, and Planet" by author Jordan Rubin (The Maker's Diet author) is a 208 page paperback book published by Destiny Image. It features a photo of New York Times Bestselling author and author of this book, Jordan Rubin leaning on a shovel in front of crates of freshly grown vegetables. This book is classified as a "Naturopathy, Healing, Alternative Therapies" book and states on the back cover "The health and well-being of you, your family, and our planet rest on your shoulders and the daily decisions you make." This book holds nothing back.

Author Rubin begins his book with his own story of health struggles. When he was nineteen Rubin was diagnosed with Crone’s disease. His father contacted Bud Keith, a nutritionist. Keith showed them to a plan of Neuropathic healing, using Biblical principles. After being on the program for six weeks Rubin's body became totally regenerated. This changed his life, and he began studying the effects we have on the environment, alternative health therapies, sustainable agriculture, food production, economic prosperity, and abundance.

I was intrigued throughout the book with all of the information. The author has a real passion for God, helping people get healthy, and taking care of this Earth we were entrusted to do just that. He provides so much various information in his thought provoking, inspiring book. The chapter on the eight common allergens to avoid when eating was very eye opening. As were the ones on Organic food, nutritional values, and ways to stop top soil erosion. There is just so much so much to learn here.

The author has a nice writing style. His ideas are well thought and organized. The book flowed well and did not seem to jump around. This will be a book that I will refer to in the future. It is one to discuss in a study group. This is a book that stays with you after you have read it.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in Naturopathy, healing themselves and the Earth, or even having a small farm or sustainable garden. Anyone interested in health or having a healthy Earth would appreciate this book. I rated it a 5 out of 5 stars. I received a copy of this book from The Book Club Network for my honest review.

Good but annoying

I'm not one for writing reviews but I just had to write this. This book does have useful info but it is horribly written and badly edited. Definitions and explanations on topics are given pages after their introduced. Tables and figures are horribly labeled, if labeled at all. Example I'm currently on pg 226 and table 17 is completely wrong, read the description of the experiment. Another example pages 221 and 222 have identical figures but only one is labeled correctly, page 218 an equation is given which is completely wrong, try it. There are even missing figures. This has got to be one of the most annoying and frustrating texts I have ever read.

Agree with the previous reviewer. I cannot believe this book, a second edition at that, has been read and edited by anyone. Glad I did not buy the book. Will see if I get any useful information out of it or lose patience.
One sentence I just read (page 84): "The rows can be assessed for a maximum color in which there is a range of values that are similar". What does this mean????

About the Author
Louis Gary Lamit is the former head of the drafting department and CAD facility manager at De Anza College in Cupertino California. Mr. Lamit has worked as a drafter, designer, numerical control (NC) programmer, technical illustrator, and engineer in the automotive, aircraft, and piping industries. A majority of his work experience is in the area of mechanical and piping design. He started as a drafter in Detroit (as a job shopper) in the automobile industry, doing tooling, dies, jigs and fixture layout, and detailing at Koltenbar Engineering, Tool Engineering, Time Engineering, and Premier Engineering for Chrysler, Ford, AMC, and Fisher Body. Mr. Lamit has worked at Remington Arms and Pratt and Whitney Aircraft as a designer, and at Boeing Aircraft and Kollmorgan Optics as an NC programmer and aircraft engineer. Mr. Lamit also owns and operates his own consulting firm, and has been involved with advertising and patent illustrating.

Best book to learn Creo Parametric 2.0 (formerly Pro/ENGINEER from PTC)

Gary Limit's propensity for writing textbooks throughout the years truly comes out in this new Creo Parametric 2.0 version. I could not ask for a better manual to instruct my students with. Concise and well presented with a strong approach on appropriate parametric modeling techniques that are not usually covered in other CAD books. This is without a doubt the best-written introduction book on Creo Parametric 2.0 (formerly Pro/ENGINEER from PTC) I have ever worked with. It is also quite good as an upgrade book. Not only does it cover parametric modeling with a step-by-step approach were one learned technique builds on another, but it also covers assembles and detailing as well. It comprehensively covers the new and highly evolved Creo Parametric interface. The book includes access to his personal web page "CAD-Resources" dot com, with a link for a free Tryout Edition of Creo Parametric, access to lectures, as well as over a dozen complimentary projects that add hundreds of free pages for the user to access and the ability to stretch and practice what they have learned. What a deal...If you find a better introductory Creo Parametric book I will eat this one and the entire series!

Just got done with using this text in my 6th semester. Was able to flip the classroom because it came with 30 plus hours of "classroom" lectures. Instead of standing in front of the class I walked around and assisted students (mostly industry professionals looking to upgrade skills) Answered questions in the classroom and on line for my distance learning students. Everyone of my students liked the process and loved the book and lectures. They could start and stop and rewind the lectures and not miss anything like they used to do with traditional instruction. The text was so precise and error free that I has few real questions. My experience is that only people who are hung up on anther system-ACAD, Solidworks, and keep comparing commands a new system even with a great text.

Creo Learning as Easy as It Gets

This is a great tutorial for learning proe/creo. Mr. Lamit has a knack for putting just the right amount of theory with the exercises. In addition, lectures can be downloaded that mimic the book exercises. I believe the excellence of the book is indicative of a person who has dedicated their career to design. Hard to beat a been there done person with a passion for the subject. The book in combination with the lectures is a great value. I recommend them highly.

Origen's Systematic Theology:
Origen theology, rests mainly on two of his works,'On First Principles,' and 'Contra Celsus', his defense of Christianity, in response to the attacks of the pagan philosopher. On First Principles, is Origen's major systematic and philosophical work where he established his main doctrines, including that of the Holy Trinity, the preexistence and fall of souls, transmigration of souls, and the eventual restoration of them, in proximity to the Godhead, in 'Theosis', a state of gradual faithful metaphormism into perfection. He was pioneer in his insistence on the free will of souls. He is unique, introducing history, within his speculations on metaphysical cosmology, that it became a saying, "No theology without Cosmology."
Berkhoff wrote defining the History of Dogmatics, "Origen was the first to construct something like a system of theology. His work was written about the year 218 AD., in it he attempts to transform the doctrine of the Church into a speculative science, acceptable to the cultural and philosophical classes of his day."

On First Principles:
Origen was probably not more than thirty, when he wrote De principiis (On First Principles), perhaps his greatest work in systematic theology, to express Christian faith in Neoplatonic terms, Saccha's Christianized philosophy of Alexandria. Most of 'De principiis' is expressed in an orthodox Christian universal thought, and there is no evidence that he ever modified in any respect. The first book of De Principiis deals with God and creation; the second and third with Creation and Providence, with Man and Redemption; and the fourth with Holy Scripture.
Written for scholars, Origen affirms one God, creator and ruler of the universe, Jesus Christ begotten before all creation, divine in His incarnation, and the Holy Spirit in the glory of the Father. He expressed that humans depend in their existence on the Father, their rational nature from the Son, and their holiness from the Holy Spirit. In spite of his guiding principle; 'Nothing which is at variance with the tradition of the apostles and of the church is to be accepted as true,' Origen's genius speculative flights lead some early church leaders to question his orthodoxy.

Koetschau's Reconstruction:
Koetschau's work to recover the original, of De Principiis is a great work, of few peers in philosophy or Patristic literature. His edition of Origen's lost Greek original writings, is a reconstruction from fragments from Greek and Latin quotations. Koetschau reconstruction although helpful for text continuity had necessarily to fill lots of gaps, based on his best guess. Butterworth, complex statements trying to be precise may have caused confusion. He comments on a Koetschau's reconstruction as, "a composite passage from Gregory of Nyssa," or, "...Koetschau's arguments for including it in the text of Origen are given in his introduction, pp. 117-118," and so on.
Rowan Greer, in 'Origen: An exhortation to Martyrdom, Prayer, etc.' was more explicit, for more than ten times repeating, "there follows koetschau's conjectural attempt to fill a lacuna of 'x' lines in the manuscript."

Of all the great Origen's works, his "On First Principles" was the most monumental. It was the first attempt to formulate a coherent system of Christian philosophy, and it also is the best expression of the theologian's general opinions. The work is divided into four parts: book one essentially deals with God and creation, book two with creation (rational and irrational natures), providence, and redemption, and book four with the interpretation of Holy Scripture. Origen's views are based upon the authority of the Scriptures and Church tradition, and his theology is grounded upon the tenets of Neoplatonism. In "On First Principles" many erudite and sublime maxims are given as to the nature of the Trinity, the person of Christ, and man's free will under the hand of Providence, most of which are considered Orthodox teachings. On the other hand, the principles found in this work, which engendered controversy and were later condemned (Fifth Ecumenical Council 553), are the pre-existence and transmigration of souls, and universal salvation at the consummation of the world. So, it will be safe to say that this Christian, the most original and influential thinker until St Augustine, is always sincere in his faith and strictly orthodox wherever reason and curiosity failed to take him too far. This edition, being Koetschau's English text translated from Rufinus' definitive Latin volume, contains selected fragments of St Jerome's rendition and the meager remains of the original Greek texts in order furnish a more comprehensive view of Origen's writings. Also included are in-depth introductions to Origin's life and works by the scholar G. W. Butterworth and the eminent Henri Cardinal de Lubac, the French Jesuit theologian and Church historian. This work is highly recommended for anyone interested in patristic studies

A critical edition of Origen's central work

This is the definitive English traslation of Koetschau's (please, Amazon, note the spelling!) edition of Origen's central work. Because the orginal Greek has been lost, it is necessary to reconstruct the original from fragments from all kinds of sources. This Koetschau does, although his use of these sources is a little too liberal in spots. Nevertheless it is helpful in recovering the original, especially in view of Rufinus' defective translation. As a work, it has few peers in Patristic literature. It represents Origen at the start of his career as a theologian and Christian teacher. Many of his speculations are very daring, so much so that in at least one case (the transmigration of souls) he changes his position in later years. (He may have on others, but most of his work is lost today.) But his insistence on free will as the driving force behind the fall of man was revolutionary in his fatalistic time and, to some extent, still is.

A fascinating and very controversial work.

I always loved this book. I often give this book to people because it's so interesting and it just blows people's minds as to how accurate it is when describling the sun signs. It's really uncanny. I bought the book for the fist time in 1972 and still have that copy. No book is as good as Linda Goodman's the information will amaze you.
